Wish You Could Simply Flush Fat Away?
Losing Our Waistlines
In the future, there will be greater expectations for physicians to include an assessment of dietary habits as part of an overall health evaluation. This is a shift in the right direction, but is an obvious necessity in response to the overwhelming trend toward obesity in this country.
But why are so many of us looking in the mirror at a super-sized version of our former selves? Are we fatter because we’ve become couch potatoes? Is fast food too convenient? Does the fault lay with trans fatty acids that can now be found in most, if not all, of our processed foods? Or, have our environment and our bodies become so insidiously poisoned, even by the common medications we take—statins, NSAIDs, Tylenol, and more—that we’ve overtaxed vital organs such as the liver? There’s no doubt that toxins that wear down our vital organs, particularly our livers, can cause us to gain weight.
