I don’t know what it’s like in your neck of the woods, but the weather’s really heating up here in central Texas. To me, there’s nothing like a delicious tall glass of iced tea on a hot day, and at this time of the year in Texas iced tea is flowing by the gallon.

If you choose green tea to put in your glass
(which is what we do at my house) you’ll not only enjoy a refreshing drink—but one that will give you immense health benefits as well. Here’s why…

Green tea is considered to be a superior source of antioxidants, called polyphenols. The real “superstars” of the polyphenols and their gallates are called catechins, which is where all the powerful cell protection comes from. The most potent catechin is EGCG (epigallacatachin-3-gallate), which is a powerful antioxidant that helps to block potentially harmful free radicals in your body.

All summer long, I drink iced green tea. Here’s how to make it…

Pour very hot, but “off the boil,” water over the teabag—or place several tea bags in a glass pitcher that’s made to withstand heat. Then, steep the tea bags for four minutes and remove. Let the tea cool down a bit, and add ice cubes and an all-natural sweetener like xylitol or honey to taste.

Now it’s your turn: What’s your favorite type of iced tea?
