Lighten the Load and Help Out Your Liver
The good news is that you don’t have to follow a rigid detox program to add some of its benefits to your health equation. Every little bit helps, and whatever you try is a plus.
Overall, I see detoxification as two steps. First, easing your toxic load; and second, giving your liver (as well as your hard-working kidneys) a helping hand.
Step One: Lighten the Load
While it’s impossible to escape every toxin in our food, water, and air, we can filter out a good percentage. Install air and water filters throughout your home, as needed. The label on an air filter will indicate the area it cleans, so make sure you’re using the right size and quantity for your entire home.
Place water filters not only on your kitchen tap, but also in your shower and bathroom faucets. As for your shower, remember that your skin acts like a sponge and soaks up chemicals in the water. Plus, the steam from hot water carries toxins that are taken into your body through your lungs. As far as the bathroom sink goes, keep in mind that’s where you brush your teeth and wash your face, so it’s critical to keep toxins out of that water as well.
Another critical way to reduce your toxic intake is to go organic. You’ve already heard this from me and you’ll hear it again and again—today’s foods are loaded with hormones, pesticides, and preservatives that literally cancel out the nutritional benefits of pure, whole foods.
