Mercury Rising-Hidden Heavy Metal Toxicity
My Recommendations
If you are concerned that you are at risk for mercury toxicity, I strongly encourage you to have a simple and inexpensive mineral hair analysis done. I started doing this on patients back in the late 70s and early 80s, and even then I was blown away at how many of them had excessively high mercury levels in their system.
The test is very easy. All you need to do is have your health practitioner clip a sample of your hair and send it to a lab for analysis. I particularly recommend Great Smokies Diagnostic Laboratory in North Carolina (800-522-4762 or www.gsdl.com), as they will work directly with a medical doctor, as well as a nutritionist, chiropractor, or naturopath.
If it is determined that you do have elevated mercury levels, or you simply want to prevent further toxicity, you’ll need to take the following steps:
- Refuse to allow your dentist to use dental amalgams to fill cavities. If you already have these fillings, it is imperative that you find a holistic dentist to have them removed and replaced. To find a holistic dentist in your area, log on to www.dentalfind.com/Holistic_Dentistry.
- Limit intake of the abovementioned fish.
- Be sure that the fish oil capsules you are taking are mercury-free.
- Take vitamin C (1,000-1,500 mg three times a day) and selenium (200-400 mcg, as selenomethionine, once a day) to boost the levels of and help synthesize the production of glutathione—one of your most important nutrients—for healthy detoxification to start flushing mercury out of your system.
- Use powerful detox nutrients like garlic and chlorella to help pull mercury out of your body. I suggest you eat a clove of garlic a day or take 1,000 mg in capsule form. Garlic capsules are available in most health food and grocery stores. I am particularly fond of Enzymatic Therapy and Kyolic brands. For chlorella, you should take 1 tablespoon a day in 8-12 ounces of water. Chlorella is available in most health food stores, and is pretty comparable across brands.
Lastly, for further evaluation and treatment, it is crucial that you consult a complementary physician with experience in heavy metal toxicity.
