Live Healthier by Keeping Toxins at Bay
Several months ago, the Associated Press recently released the results of a five-month inquiry on the state of drinking water supplies in 24 major metropolitan areas, from Southern California to Northern New Jersey and cities in between. Their research revealed that the drinking water of millions of Americans is contaminated by a wide range of pharmaceuticals, including antibiotics, sex hormones, and powerful drugs to treat pain, infection, high cholesterol, asthma, heart problems and mental illness.
These water-borne contaminants are just the latest in the long list of toxins you are likely exposed to each day. Although our bodies are designed with amazing natural detoxifying systems, they are simply not able to withstand this kind of constant assault. And research has shown that the toxins we ingest, inhale, and absorb on a daily basis eventually build up in our cells and organs, with unquestionable health consequences.
Granted, there’s no way to avoid toxins entirely. Even some of your natural body processes produce toxic byproducts. But, limiting the toxins you take in will ease the detoxification burden on your body and allow you to feel healthier and live with more vitality.
Top Tips for Avoiding Toxins
- Drink only pure, distilled water. Only distilled water removes all contaminants, leaving behind pure H20, just as Mother Nature intended. And the fewer contaminants in the water you drink, the less detoxifying your body needs to do. Also, drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of distilled water each day will help keep your natural detoxifying systems running smoothly.
- Choose organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. I know they often cost more, but they’re well worth it. And they’re becoming more readily available, so it’s no longer a chore to shop for these health-supporting foods.
- Minimize your use of insecticides and pesticides. If you must use any of these compounds, wear appropriate gloves, clothing, and masks to minimize your exposure, and store the containers as far from your living space as possible.
Suggestions for Helping Your Body’s Natural Detoxifying Systems
- Take a comprehensive, high-potency multinutrient. Look for one with a comprehensive blend of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, herbal superfoods, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants.
- Make sure your bowels are moving regularly (a minimum of once daily, preferably two or three times daily). This is your body’s primary means of removing toxins and waste products on a very regular basis. Eating a healthy diet rich in fibrous foods will go a long way to support your bowels.
- Nurture a proper bacterial balance in your gastrointestinal tract. One of the main functions of your bowel is to help your body detoxify, and it needs to be healthy and balanced in order to get the job done. The best method of establishing and maintaining bacterial flora, known as probiotics, is through the use of fermented foods. I routinely make and consume yogurt, and I also make my own fermented vegetables and sauerkraut.
Another alternative for promoting a healthy bacterial balance is to supplement with a quality probiotic. Just make sure that the one you choose is manufactured so that the live beneficial bacteria can survive both production and non-refrigerated transportation. Otherwise, you’ll just be consuming dead bacteria.
- Consider juicing as an easy and delicious way to get abundant food-based antioxidants. Unlike juices you buy at the store, the wholesome liquid from juicing gives you the nutrients from all parts of the fruit or vegetable, which guarantees close to 100% of the food’s nutrient content.
By minimizing the toxins your body is exposed to, as well as helping your natural detoxifying systems along by undergoing regular whole-body detoxifications, you’ll bring your body to a new state of clean. And you’ll enjoy the amazing health benefits that this brings, such as a resurgence of energy, comfortable digestion, deep restful sleep, improved focus, and a better overall sense of well being.
