Health Benefits of Fiber on Blood Pressure
http://blog.drdavidwilliams.com/blog/dr-david-williams/0/0/health-benefits-of-fiber-on-blood-pressure
It looks like adding a little extra fiber to the diet may be all that’s needed to help those with borderline high blood pressure. In one study (Lancet, 9:12:87), patients took a fiber tablet and their blood pressure went down. Their systolic pressure (the top number) dropped 10 points and the diastolic pressure (lower number) dropped five points.
I doubt there’s anything magic in any particular fiber product. By adding more of the highest fiber foods such as fruit, whole grain, and vegetable roughage, I feel certain the results could be achieved. It is a good sign though, to see the medical journals reporting more on the health benefits of fiber.
