Beyond Carrots—Eat Your Way to Sharper Vision
http://blog.drdavidwilliams.com/blog/digestive-health-guidance/beyond-carrotseat-your-way-to-sharper-vision
We all know the old adage about carrots being good for our eyes—but carrots aren’t the only food that can improve your vision. Tomatoes, spinach, red and yellow bell peppers, and many other colorful fruits and vegetables contain nutrients like beta-carotene, lutein, and other mixed carotenoids. These powerful antioxidants collect on the surface of the lenses of the eye to help fortify and protect it.
Another good food to boost your vision is dark berries, which contain bioflavonoids that help protect blood vessels in the eye. In fact, you may have heard that RAF fighter pilots ate bilberry jam during World War II to improve their night vision. The effect was due to those all important bioflavonoids found in bilberries (a specific type of wild blueberry found in Europe).
Plus, there’s one more food that should be part of your diet, eggs. Research also shows that egg yolks significantly increase bloodstream levels of both lutein and zeaxanthin—another carotenoid thats been shown to help filter out ultraviolet rays and promote macular density.
Remember, your eyes are delicate organs that allow you to see the wonders of the world around you. Keeping them healthy is not only sensible, its vital.
Now it’s your turn: Which one is your favorite vision-boosting food?
