Step #3: Friendly Bacteria

Another great way to enhance bowel health is by getting plenty of "friendly bacteria," or probiotics. Regular use of probiotics, such as Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria (both come in supplement form), not only improve digestive health, but also protect against infections by fungi and other, less friendly, bacteria. If you can't find these bacteria in health-food stores, you can take acidophilus.

You can also get probiotics by eating yogurt (particularly yogurt cultured with acidophilus), sourdough bread, and sauerkraut.

Step #4: Medicated Enemas (optional):

If you want to take it a step further, medicated enemas, another basic process of Pancha Karma, also can detox the bowel. Medicated enemas are more complicated to administer than the in-home remedies I just recommended. They involve the use of various herbal tea concoctions that contain such oils as sesame to alleviate constipation, backache, and various heart ailments, including arrhythmia and angina. CAUTION: Medicated enemas should never be used by anyone who is bleeding from the rectum or has diarrhea or severe constipation.
