Ayurvedic Medicine: A Dose of Commone Sense

One of the sensible things about Ayurvedic medicine is how each person's health is examined individually. Ayurveda, which literally means "the science of life," is a system of medicine that has been practiced for more than 5,000 years and may provide some of the approaches we're looking for.

According to Ayurvedic principles, each of us has a specific constitution, or internal environment in our body, which is dominated by one of three properties or "doshas." The dominant property, however, may be thrown off-kilter by certain negative factors or habits.

These include poor hygiene and diet, a toxic environment, hectic lifestyle, seasonal changes, and repressed emotions and stress, all of which can act independently or together to shift your body off balance. Many of you probably recognize some of these factors as top culprits in causing or exacerbating heart disease.
