A Banana Peel for Pain

I’ve always found that some of the best home remedies are the ones that are passed person-to-person, and this easy solution for pain is no exception. Gene from Illinois wrote to let me know that he’s found that, “…the inside of a banana peal will do wonders for me.”
He went on to write, “I have been so laid up with pain to my right hip that I could hardly get out of bed. I rub the inside of the banana peel all over the painful area and the pain goes away for about 24 hours, and I then do it again.
“Also, doctors at the Iowa City Hospital haven’t been able to treat my twitching eye. The banana peel gives me total comfort which nothing else has done. I use it on my closed eye about every 12 hours. I had an open sore on the back of my left hand which I also treated successfully with the peel.”
Bananas truly are a wonder cure. Banana peels can also be used to get rid of warts, and the leaves are antibacterial and antifungal and can be crushed and applied to sores and wounds. I haven’t tried using the peels as Gene described, but it sounds like it’s worth it. The faint odor of bananas seems like a small price to pay for pain relief. I’d also be interested to see if green, unripened peels work as well. Certain healing compounds are more concentrated in the peels before they ripen.
Now it’s your turn: Have you found a home remedy that works for you?
