Mercury Rising-Hidden Heavy Metal Toxicity
Mercury toxicity is a huge and alarming health problem that currently affects millions of women in the United States. In 2000, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that 10 percent of U.S. women have dangerously high mercury levels.
Based on testing I’ve done on my patients and the findings of many of my colleagues, I believe that the number is actually higher, since the CDC only looked at toxic levels, rather than elevated levels. In my practice alone, I’ve been amazed by the frequency at which I found elevated levels of toxic heavy metals like mercury in my patients. Even worse, you can have dangerously high levels of mercury in your body and not even suspect that this is an issue because most doctors don’t normally check for this problem.
One of the biggest difficulties with mercury poisoning is the fact that it can contribute to and masquerade as many different health issues. This means that for many women “the horse is already out of the barn.” In other words, they already have elevated mercury levels in their bodies, but don’t know it.
